            The person who want to join merchant navy after 10th std he need passport first, then he can go to the DG approved (government of India) training institute and can do GP Rating course (General Purpose Rating)

             GP Rating is the 6 month pre-sea training program which is approved by DG Shipping (government of India) the GP Rating Course based on theory and practical of a deck and engine side both.

             After 6 month of training candidate must appear an exam. Based on 6 month training which is conducted twice in a year (December and June). After passing the exam candidate gets pre-sea passing certificate which will help to further exams for the post of officer.

              After pass out GP Rating final exam candidate will get CDC (Continues Discharge certificate) issued by the Shipping Master. CDC is the most important document to get job on ship.

 

 Required documents and qualification for GP Rating

·         The candidate must have to pass out 10th with minimum 40 % marks  in English

·         10th passed certificate  

·         School leaving certificate

·         Passport

Age

·       The Candidate must 17.5 years old can apply for GP Rating Course. Not more the 25 years old

 

Medical checkup before admission

·         Medical checkup has rules about shipping government amended 2000.

·         Candidate much go thought eyesight test. 6x6 eye without visual aide. No color blindness.

 

Admissions process

·         Written exam (sort of CET but not much hard exam to pass).

·         Interview (taken in the institute where candidate wants to get admission).

·         Medical examination (as per shipping government of rules)

 

G P Rating Expenses

·         G P Rating course will cost 2 lakhs for 6 month including accommodation and food.

·         This expenses can be changed as per training institute.

 

 Salary after course

·         After joining the ship the candidate who join deck will perform job as Tr. OS and get salary about 200 to 300 USD per month.

·         If the candidate join engine department will perform as Tr. Wiper and get the salary about 200 to 300 USD per month.
